New Interviews with Loyd Auerbach

This past week, a few interviews with Professor Paranormal himself, Loyd Auerbach (yes, that’s me!) hit the web.

The first is a special clip from Audioburst from an interview with me by Art Bell, in which I talk about one of my favorite cases in relation to Psychokinesis (Mind over Matter).

Next are two segments of an interview conducted for a local web series, “The Haunted Bay.” First up, an interview for their episode 10, “What Are Ghosts?”

Next is for The Haunted Bay, episode 11, “Can Ghosts Travel?”

A more recent webTV interview, done at the production company that is the legacy of the old cable network TechTV — where I did many appearances — happened on Halloween 2015 for their show “The New Screen Savers.” The webTV network is TWiT.TV (This Week in Tech), hosted by Leo Laporte. My interview comes in at 1:05:43 — it’s a really good one!!

GHOST HUNTING class starts Wednesday, October 7th

GHOST HUNTING: How to Investigate the Paranormal: 4 (3 hour) classes

Wednesdays, October 7, 14, 21 & 28, from 6:30-9:30 PM Pacific time

ATTEND BY PHONE OR IN PERSON. Classes are held at HCH Institute, 3702 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, CA (or on your telephone).

All attendees receive a DVD-rom disc with a ton of info, including mp3 audio (a previous offering of the course, plus extra audio), video (including an unaired TV pilot), and a large amount of required reading and supporting documents (include a number of ebooks).

The class will be recorded, and you will receive the mp3 afterwards as well!

Most people are interested in the paranormal phenomena we classify as “ghostly”: Apparitions, Hauntings and Poltergeists. Many are interested in understanding their own experiences and the experiences of others. Many are intensely interested in gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective investigator of such things: a Ghost Hunter. This class is a guide to ghost hunting, and attendees will gain the basic skills and understanding for investigation of ghosts, poltergeists, haunted places and related psychic experiences. The class will include the models of what these things are (from the field of parapsychology), how the scientific and psychic approaches can mesh together, and how to assess a situation, investigate it, and resolve the case to the satisfaction of the people having the experiences (and hopefully to the satisfaction of the ghosts, when they’re involved).

Based on the field of Parapsychology’s 130+ year experience with such investigations, the class will cover: Apparitions, Hauntings and Poltergeists: differences and similarities; What else can make a “ghost”; The investigative process, from initial call to resolution; Technology & Psychics in ghost hunting; How the techniques of the professionals differ from those of the amateurs; The ethics of paranormal investigating and legal issues that can be involved.

The deep (and necessary) connections between apparitions, hauntings and poltergeists and other psychic experiences and abilities, and why a ghost hunter or paranormal investigator needs an understanding of the findings of Parapsychology in order to both conduct a thorough investigation and come to at least a range of reasonable conclusions – and to understand the “why” of the phenomena.

Naturally, the class will include some of Auerbach’s more exciting cases.

Students completing this course are eligible to affiliate with Loyd Auerbach’s Office of Paranormal Investigations and be deployed for appropriate investigations that become available in their own locale.

Cost is $250 for the course and DVD-Rom with audio, video and text.

Call 925-283-3941 to reserve your space, or email paul@hypnotherapytraining.com

HCH is BART accessible. Go to www.HypnotherapyTraining.com for directions.

Approved for CE credits for MFTs, LSCWs and RNs All classes are held at HCH Institute 3702 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA 94549

Remember: if you are outside the Bay Area (or even in the Bay Area and just don’t want to fight the traffic, you may attend the class by telephone.

An Important New Publication on Extrasensory Perception

I’ve been a little behind in posting events for myself, and in posting anything of substance here on my site. Been working on a few things, including working a bit at JFK University doing marketing and running a speaker program for the Consciousness and Transformative Studies MA Program, as well as developing content and teaching (or co-teaching) online courses for the Rhine Center (www.rhine.org and www.rhineeducationcenter.org ).

Now I’d like to get back in the swing of talking about developments in Parapsychology and providing some commentary on the paranormal generally, and paranormal pop culture in particular. So do come back and visit every week for more.

To kick off this new push (for myself), something new…

I am very proud to have contributed a chapter (with the help of Sheila Smith and Dominic Parker backing up the research material) to an incredibly important new text on psychic phenomena.

Just released from Praeger is a two volume hardcover set called EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION: SUPPORT, SKEPTICISM AND SCIENCE, edited by Edwin C. May and Sonali Bhatt Marwaha.

The books include chapter contributions from notables not only in the field of Parapsychology, but also from a number of other mainstream sciences. The foreword is by neuroscientist James Fallon, well-known for his examination of the psychopath.

Volume one covers “History, Controversy, and Research, while volume 2 hits on “Theories of Psi.”

My chapter reviews the research in ESP and PK over the last 10 or so years at laboratories and from researchers in the United States. Other similar chapters cover Europe, Australia, and Asia.

While the two volume set is likely out of the price range of most (it’s over $120 even with Amazon’s typical discount), the quality of the material in the volumes is worth every penny. This set will hopefully create a stir in the mainstream, if only because some have put their place in academia on the line simply for contributing.

You can find an interview with Ed May about the set here:

ONE SHOT (One evening) classes:

HAUNTINGS: IN-DEPTH: Wednesday, January 14, 6:30 – 9:30 PM $50

The term “haunting” refers to places that have repeated paranormal/ghostly activity. Buildings or the land they are built on can be haunted, and the building can be old or even relatively new. It’s also possible for objects to be haunted (after all, what is a house but a big object?). Researchers have long determined that hauntings (often referred to as “residual hauntings” by many) have a different cause than apparition/ghost cases: place memory/psychic imprints vs. actual conscious entities

This one-evening session will look at the long history of haunted places and objects and why psychical researchers and parapsychologists have separated them into their own category different from apparitions. Learn about the models of hauntings, from psychic imprinting to the British “stone tape theory” to geophysical possibilities.

We’ll also delve into specific haunting cases, including a few from the casebooks of the instructor, Loyd Auerbach and several of his colleagues. We’ll consider how sometimes phenomena can be mixed (hauntings and apparitions together), and even how a haunting can cause a poltergeist situation.

Finally, for those investigating haunting, apparition, and poltergeist cases, we’ll talk about resolving cases of hauntings and how and why haunting resolutions are so different from the others.

IS YOUR CHILD PSYCHIC? An Introduction to Children and Psychic Abilities: Wednesday, January 21st, 6:30-9:30 PM  $50

Children are by nature, more psychic than adults. Unfortunately, our culture and educational system seem to shut down their natural abilities early on.

This special introductory seminar will help you find out how you can determine what psychic talents your child might have, and how to nurture and develop them, as well as help them (and yourself) deal with what they actually experience. Along the way, you’ll also learn much about how you, too, can re-develop your own buried abilities. We’ll look at the range of psychic abilities demonstrated by children (and researched over the years), from ESP to mind over matter (PK) to the ability to see or otherwise sense ghosts and spirits.

We’ll also touch on the relationship between poltergeist cases and adolescents.

For those without their own kids, this class will provide much about the research findings with kids and psychic abilities, findings that will help you with your own psychic development.

For those who are more interested in paranormal investigations where there are children involved who have witnessed hauntings and apparitions, we’ll discuss how to work with kids to alleviate their fear and best conduct the investigation.

FULL CLASSES

Precognition and Psychokinesis: January 15, 22, 29, February 5 & 12, 6:30 to 9:30 PM    $275 including mp3 recordings of the past year’s session, mp3s of current class, additional text, audio and a video workshop – on DVD-Rom.                 MIND, MATTER AND TIME: How Our Psychic Abilities Affect the World Around Us, Pierce the Veil of Time and Help Create the Future. In this six week course, Loyd Auerbach will discuss two fascinating psychic abilities, Psychokinesis (mind over matter) and Precognition. In addition, he’ll delve into theories of Time and Space that connect Psychokinesis (PK) and Precognition.

In relation to PK, he’ll delve into: what parapsychologists and many others know today about PK, how it manifests itself, and how it hints at the broader interconnectedness between our consciousnesses and the Universe around us. There will be an experiential PK segment to this class, working with a method for PK developed by the late (great) science and science fiction writer Martin Caidin,, himself capable of PK.

As for Precognition, Auerbach will cover questions such as: Can anyone really predict the Future? How? Is there really a Future that can be predicted? What is Time? Can we change the Future? Why do so many psychics miss on their predictions? What about the premonitions of the average person?

Ghost Hunting: Investigating the Paranormal: February 19, 26, March 5, 12, 6:30 to 9:30  $250, including DVD-rom with recordings of past years’ course offering in mp3, lots of additional text, audio and video. Student also get mp3s of current class.

Guest Post: Summary of Some Benefits of Meditation

Note from Loyd Auerbach: The practice of meditation is one form of altered states induction that can allow for increased psychic perception and development. Research has shown that meditation has, of course, many other benefits — some of which are summarized here in this guest post.

Summary of Some Benefits of Meditation

Ruby Andrew

Meditation, though it may appear to some to be a time-wasting activity, has a host of benefits ranging from psychological, mental, physical, and social as illustrated below based on the various scientific researches and proves done by different universities and researchers.

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS

Enhances satisfaction: People can evaluate their lives and set goals that they want to achieve and work towards. It helps them acknowledge their failures, not to feel guilty about them but to learn from them. This gives them strength to overcome their weaknesses.

Self-realization: It provides a chance for one to get oriented to one’s person/self. It is ‘me time’. With no one in the picture, being all alone in one’s own world makes one think through each aspect of life and know better who he/she is. This enhances self-image.

Helps one develop humane feelings: Naturally, humans are moral beings, social in nature and able to feel pain and empathy. Having time with oneself enhances one’s ability to relate to situations naturally.

Reduces bad feelings: Anxiety, stress and depression are always experienced as long as one lives. These feelings do increase and often impair performance especially when one is caught up in so many activities allowing no time to meditate over/ponder what one is undergoing. Some realities are not pleasant and thus many prefer pushing them off their memory.

To the contrary, meditation helps one analyze each situation and plan how to overcome it. Thus reactions to such encounters can be more positive.

It makes Self a refuge: In situations where one could retaliate, burst out in anger or break down, one can resolve to engage a habit of keeping it to Self and thinking over the situation before hurting the other party, thus enhancing the ability to cope with difficult situations.

BRAIN-RELATED BENEFITS

Meditation has been proven to enhance growth of some areas of the brain which increase performance of the individual. The portion of the cortical area responsible for attention and introspection increases, enhancing attention and internalization and thus a better and faster understanding of concepts. There is evidence for increased grey matter portion of areas responsible for memory and thought. Increased neurons in this area can enhance memory recall and judgment. Increase in size of the area responsible for generation of positive emotions and frontal area which regulates emotional reactions can enhance happiness, positivity and self- control.

PHYSICAL BENEFITS

Weight Control: Meditation can aid the ability to control appetite. Overweight and obese individuals might be able to cut their weight through self-control if that is their issue. Weight loss has been shown to be part of the treatment of and prevention against diabetes.

Decreases blood pressure: Meditation decreases body and brain activity, thus decreasing the basal metabolic rate. Alongside decreasing anxiety and stress, the blood pressure decreases and is maintained at normal levels.

SOCIAL BENEFITS

Enhances relations with other people thus better social ties. This is because of a better self-image and appreciation of oneself and other people. Accommodation of differences in personality improves reaction to different situations giving a better meaning to life.

Note: In some parts of the world, one might find physician guided meditation programs which may even be part of one’s health coverage.

POLTERGEISTS: IN-DEPTH

Cost: $50

Location: HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA, or on your own phone (phone number sent out once registered)

Poltergeists: In Depth: The term “poltergeist” translates to “noisy ghost,” which is how 16th Century Germans saw the particular physical phenomena when they coined the term. Beginning in the early 20th Century and by the 1950s–based on hundreds of case investigations and research studies–parapsychologists formed a new model: living agent psychokinesis (PK).

Learn why this model holds up so well, how it helps us resolve the situations and how it connects to lab research on PK. Why do some people become poltergeist agents and why are “little poltergeists” so common?

We’ll also consider PK caused by apparent apparitions/entities, how the activity and experiences differ, and why apparitional PK activity is no longer called “poltergeist activity” here in the US.

Finally, we’ll look at the how the living-agent distinction is not necessarily made in other parts of the world, such as the UK, what recent analyses of activity in cases has revealed, and how much poltergeist activity in recent times has actually focused on electronic devices in our lives and happen in small ways to all of us.

With some focus on the work of the late William G. Roll, who formalized the model used for living agent PK, we’ll take a really close look at noisy ghosts!

The class will be recorded, and you will receive the mp3 afterwards, as well as a number of articles and supporting text documents.

My Visit to Pocatello, Idaho

Last week (October 21-26), I spent several days in Pocatello, Idaho, hosted by John and Lisa Brian of SPIRO Paranormal.

My itinerary included a lecture (True Tales of Ghosts & Hauntings) at Idaho State University, a Professor Paranormal Psychic Entertainment Show at a local school, a book signing and a Ghost Hunting class — as well as spending time on the Haunted History tours SPIRO conducted in Pocatello on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Have to say it was a great time, and I really have to thank John and Lisa, as well as Brett Yost and the rest of the SPIRO team for making the trip truly fun.

The ISU lecture made the trip possible, especially with the extras John and Lisa were able to tag on. I hope I get the opportunity to return to Pocatello — the people were very nice and welcoming, and the town was inviting.

I do have to mention that the SPIRO team quite atypical of many of the ghost hunting groups I’ve met. They not only were truly interested in upping their investigation-game by learning whatever I could provide (or point them to as far as other sources are concerned), but also in going back over their methodology and seeing how they can both expand what they’re doing and include more of what my field has learned about investigations and the phenomena since the late 1800s (yes, we’re that old).

Not to mention they are a close knit “family” of investigators, all with a great sense of humor (and many with similar movie and TV interests to my own!)

I plan to stay in close touch with SPIRO and hope to get back to Pocatello, and to see them out here in the Bay Area as well.

If you are in a ghost hunting/paranormal investigation group/team that wants to up your game, contact me to see how we might work out either a visit to your neck of the woods or something special via distant delivery. If you have a local college or corporation that might want to book me for a lecture or Professor Paranormal show, it will probably be easier than you think!
