UPCOMING EVENTS & CLASSES: MAY AND JUNE 2015 – so far…

In order of “appearance” (when they’re happening):

FREE “Dialogues in Consciousness” at JFK University, May 28 at 7:15 PM in Pleasant Hill, CA.  Dr. Edwin C. May on “A Materialist’s View of Consciousness: Evolution of a Concept.” Moderated by Christian de Quincy.

If you ask 10 people to define consciousness, you might get 10 different descriptions. The extremes range from “mind is not equal to brain” to  “mind/consciousness is an emergent property of the brain.”

The discussion with Dr. May will consider diverse angles on the definition of consciousness.

Edwin C. May, PhD, is a Physicist and Consciousness Researcher, Executive Director of the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory, and Former Director of Research for the US Star Gate Program. His main area of research these days is Anomalous Cognition. Dr. May is co-author of ESP WARS: EAST & WEST with Victor Rubel, PhD, and Loyd Auerbach, MS (2014) and co-editor of ANOMALOUS COGNITION with Sonali Bhatt Marwaha (2014), which is a collection of peer-reviewed papeers. He and Marwaha are the editors of a forthcoming academic 2-volume set entitled EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION: Support, Skepticism, and Science (June 2015, Praeger).

Test Your ESP session, a Possession class and a PK Party for April & May (so far)

We have two special one-shot parapsychology/paranormal classes and a PK Event coming in the next couple of weeks.
TEST YOUR ESP & PK class on April 29
PSYCHIC ATTACK, POSSESSION AND PSYCHIC SELF-DEFENSE class on May 6
PK PARTY on May 8

Read below for all three, plus the announcement of a special related event on April 30 at JFK University.

For all three HCH classes/events following, please contact the instructor, Loyd Auerbach, directly to pre-register. It is very important that you contact him before the session. We have both a minimum and maximum number of people we can have for these sessions.

Contact Loyd at profparanormal@gmail.com or by phone at 925-518-4071.

TEST YOUR ESP & PK: Wednesday, April 29 from 7-9:30 PM $40
This special session will present a variety of methods for people to test their own ESP and PsychoKinesis (Mind Over Matter) — which we’ll try throughout the class. The emphasis will be mainly on various ESP abilities (including mediumistic talents) and attendees will get to try their minds at a variety of tasks.

Parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach will “test” you and provide assessments, as well as provide you with instruction as to how to continue to work with the testing methods at home — which can help you develop your abilities as well.

Also available to attend by phone — we will try some distance ESP tests with you! Note: mp3 recordings and text materials will be made available to all registered attendees.

PSYCHIC ATTACK, POSSESSION AND PSYCHIC SELF-DEFENSE: Wednesday, May 6 from 6:30 – 9:30 PM $50.
This one-shot class takes a look at the evidence for and against possession (by spirits and demons), how this is related to channeling and mediumship, to spirit attachment, and the difference between possession and psychic attack. How can one discern what’s going on in situations that might be called possession, psychic attack, ESP gone wrong, psychological disturbance or just plain mistaken perception? What can an investigator do? Or an exorcist? Or even a shaman?

There will be a discussion of the pluses and minuses of spirit communications practices, from the “dreaded” Ouija Board (and why it has a bad rap) to automatic writing to EVP and the use of K2 and other meters and flashlights.

Finally, parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach will directly address techniques for psychic protection and self-defense as well as getting rid of bad energy/entities.

Available to attend by phone — mp3 recordings and text materials will be made available to all registered attendees.

PK PARTY! COME PLAY AT MIND OVER MATTER!! Friday, May 8 from 7:30-9:30 (*though may go a little later). $$25 if you bring at least 4 spoons; $30 if you come without utensils.
This is a special session devoted to the experience of Psycho-Kinesis.
In part one, you’ll learn and play with a method of mentally moving small targets.
Part two is a Spoon-Bending Party!
Note: This session will only run if we have at least 10 people (and we are limited to no more than 22). We need a good turnout in order to get the social energy up (and to have fun)!
Anyone 10 years or older is welcome to attend.
Please be sure to pre-register with Loyd Auerbach no later than Friday morning!
Note that this session will not be recorded, and necessitates in-person attendance.

Loyd Auerbach can be reached via email at profparanormal@gmail.com or by phone at 925-518-4071.

ONE SHOT (One evening) classes:

HAUNTINGS: IN-DEPTH: Wednesday, January 14, 6:30 – 9:30 PM $50

The term “haunting” refers to places that have repeated paranormal/ghostly activity. Buildings or the land they are built on can be haunted, and the building can be old or even relatively new. It’s also possible for objects to be haunted (after all, what is a house but a big object?). Researchers have long determined that hauntings (often referred to as “residual hauntings” by many) have a different cause than apparition/ghost cases: place memory/psychic imprints vs. actual conscious entities

This one-evening session will look at the long history of haunted places and objects and why psychical researchers and parapsychologists have separated them into their own category different from apparitions. Learn about the models of hauntings, from psychic imprinting to the British “stone tape theory” to geophysical possibilities.

We’ll also delve into specific haunting cases, including a few from the casebooks of the instructor, Loyd Auerbach and several of his colleagues. We’ll consider how sometimes phenomena can be mixed (hauntings and apparitions together), and even how a haunting can cause a poltergeist situation.

Finally, for those investigating haunting, apparition, and poltergeist cases, we’ll talk about resolving cases of hauntings and how and why haunting resolutions are so different from the others.

IS YOUR CHILD PSYCHIC? An Introduction to Children and Psychic Abilities: Wednesday, January 21st, 6:30-9:30 PM  $50

Children are by nature, more psychic than adults. Unfortunately, our culture and educational system seem to shut down their natural abilities early on.

This special introductory seminar will help you find out how you can determine what psychic talents your child might have, and how to nurture and develop them, as well as help them (and yourself) deal with what they actually experience. Along the way, you’ll also learn much about how you, too, can re-develop your own buried abilities. We’ll look at the range of psychic abilities demonstrated by children (and researched over the years), from ESP to mind over matter (PK) to the ability to see or otherwise sense ghosts and spirits.

We’ll also touch on the relationship between poltergeist cases and adolescents.

For those without their own kids, this class will provide much about the research findings with kids and psychic abilities, findings that will help you with your own psychic development.

For those who are more interested in paranormal investigations where there are children involved who have witnessed hauntings and apparitions, we’ll discuss how to work with kids to alleviate their fear and best conduct the investigation.

FULL CLASSES

Precognition and Psychokinesis: January 15, 22, 29, February 5 & 12, 6:30 to 9:30 PM    $275 including mp3 recordings of the past year’s session, mp3s of current class, additional text, audio and a video workshop – on DVD-Rom.                 MIND, MATTER AND TIME: How Our Psychic Abilities Affect the World Around Us, Pierce the Veil of Time and Help Create the Future. In this six week course, Loyd Auerbach will discuss two fascinating psychic abilities, Psychokinesis (mind over matter) and Precognition. In addition, he’ll delve into theories of Time and Space that connect Psychokinesis (PK) and Precognition.

In relation to PK, he’ll delve into: what parapsychologists and many others know today about PK, how it manifests itself, and how it hints at the broader interconnectedness between our consciousnesses and the Universe around us. There will be an experiential PK segment to this class, working with a method for PK developed by the late (great) science and science fiction writer Martin Caidin,, himself capable of PK.

As for Precognition, Auerbach will cover questions such as: Can anyone really predict the Future? How? Is there really a Future that can be predicted? What is Time? Can we change the Future? Why do so many psychics miss on their predictions? What about the premonitions of the average person?

Ghost Hunting: Investigating the Paranormal: February 19, 26, March 5, 12, 6:30 to 9:30  $250, including DVD-rom with recordings of past years’ course offering in mp3, lots of additional text, audio and video. Student also get mp3s of current class.

Most people are interested in the paranormal phenomena we classify as ghostly: Apparitions, Hauntings and Poltergeists. Many are interested in understanding their own experiences and the experiences of others. Many are intensely interested in gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective investigator of such things: a Ghost Hunter.

This class is a guide to ghost hunting, and attendees will gain the basic skills and understanding for investigation of ghosts, poltergeists, haunted places and related psychic experiences. The class will include the models of what these things are (from the field of parapsychology), how the scientific and psychic approaches can mesh together, and how to assess a situation, investigate it, and resolve the case to the satisfaction of the people having the experiences (and hopefully to the satisfaction of the ghosts, when they’re involved).

You will learn about: Apparitions, hauntings and poltergeists: differences and similarities. What else can make a “ghost”… the investigative process, from initial call to resolution. Psychics in ghost hunting. How the techniques of the professionals differ from those of the amateurs.

Naturally, the class will include some of Auerbach’s more exciting cases.
RHINE EDUCATION CENTER: ONLINE COURSES: The following full classes are online courses. There is a weekly webinar, which you can attend live or watch the replay. The courses have online forums for the assignments (yes, there are assignments in this class, as it is more “academic”), discussion questions, and the two quizzes. You can take the class for a “grade” or just for fun. For more info, go to www.rhineeducationcenter.org

This course is designed as an overview to introduce students to the methodologies of parapsychologists specifically with regard to the spontaneous occurrence of psychic experiences as they occur outside laboratory settings, with a main focus on cases of reported Apparitions, Hauntings and Poltergeists. Attendees will gain an understanding of the very basic skills and needed for investigation of ghosts, poltergeists, haunted places and related psychic experiences.

The class will include:

The conceptual models of the phenomena,

How the scientific and psychic approaches can mesh together, and

How to assess a situation, investigate it, and resolve the case to the satisfaction of the people having the experiences.

The Science of ESP. 8 weeks starting Wednesday, February 18. $199 (discount for Rhine Center members is available)

This 8 week academic course will define the phenomena and experiences related to Extrasensory Perception (ESP) and provide an in-depth study of the current and historical evidence and research of Telepathy, Clairvoyance, and Precognition. POLTERGEISTS One Shot Class: Thurs, Nov 20, 2014

POLTERGEISTS: IN-DEPTH

Thursday November 20, 2014 from 6:30 – 9:30 PM Pacific time

Cost: $50

Location: HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA, or on your own phone (phone number sent out once registered)

Register: Email Paul at HCH at paul@hypnotherapytraining.com (and copy me, please) and/or call Paul at HCH at 925-283-3941

Poltergeists: In Depth: The term “poltergeist” translates to “noisy ghost,” which is how 16th Century Germans saw the particular physical phenomena when they coined the term. Beginning in the early 20th Century and by the 1950s–based on hundreds of case investigations and research studies–parapsychologists formed a new model: living agent psychokinesis (PK).

Learn why this model holds up so well, how it helps us resolve the situations and how it connects to lab research on PK. Why do some people become poltergeist agents and why are “little poltergeists” so common?

We’ll also consider PK caused by apparent apparitions/entities, how the activity and experiences differ, and why apparitional PK activity is no longer called “poltergeist activity” here in the US.

Finally, we’ll look at the how the living-agent distinction is not necessarily made in other parts of the world, such as the UK, what recent analyses of activity in cases has revealed, and how much poltergeist activity in recent times has actually focused on electronic devices in our lives and happen in small ways to all of us.

With some focus on the work of the late William G. Roll, who formalized the model used for living agent PK, we’ll take a really close look at noisy ghosts!

The class will be recorded, and you will receive the mp3 afterwards, as well as a number of articles and supporting text documents.

My Visit to Pocatello, Idaho

Last week (October 21-26), I spent several days in Pocatello, Idaho, hosted by John and Lisa Brian of SPIRO Paranormal.

My itinerary included a lecture (True Tales of Ghosts & Hauntings) at Idaho State University, a Professor Paranormal Psychic Entertainment Show at a local school, a book signing and a Ghost Hunting class — as well as spending time on the Haunted History tours SPIRO conducted in Pocatello on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Have to say it was a great time, and I really have to thank John and Lisa, as well as Brett Yost and the rest of the SPIRO team for making the trip truly fun.

The ISU lecture made the trip possible, especially with the extras John and Lisa were able to tag on. I hope I get the opportunity to return to Pocatello — the people were very nice and welcoming, and the town was inviting.

I do have to mention that the SPIRO team quite atypical of many of the ghost hunting groups I’ve met. They not only were truly interested in upping their investigation-game by learning whatever I could provide (or point them to as far as other sources are concerned), but also in going back over their methodology and seeing how they can both expand what they’re doing and include more of what my field has learned about investigations and the phenomena since the late 1800s (yes, we’re that old).

Not to mention they are a close knit “family” of investigators, all with a great sense of humor (and many with similar movie and TV interests to my own!)

I plan to stay in close touch with SPIRO and hope to get back to Pocatello, and to see them out here in the Bay Area as well.

If you are in a ghost hunting/paranormal investigation group/team that wants to up your game, contact me to see how we might work out either a visit to your neck of the woods or something special via distant delivery. If you have a local college or corporation that might want to book me for a lecture or Professor Paranormal show, it will probably be easier than you think!

Reincarnation class Thursday night, Aug 7, 2014 — live or by phone

I am offering a one-shot class this Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, from 6:30 – 9:30 PM Pacific time at HCH Institute in Lafayette, CA.

REINCARNATION: THE BEST EVIDENCE

Well over a billion people on the planet believe in past lives, and in being reborn after their deaths. From religion-based to culture-based beliefs and practices that are quite ancient, to relatively recent work with past life regression and spontaneously recalled past life memories, the evidence–of varying strength–has mounted up.
But how do these forms of evidence stack up scientifically? What are the best forms of evidence and cases of reincarnation?
In this one-shot class, parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach will survey all forms of evidence for (and against) reincarnation and past (and future) lives. He will focus on evidence/cases of young children who remember previous lives–cases investigated by researchers at the University of Virginia, the University of Iceland, and several more institutions from the last 60+ years.
He will discuss the value of the other evidence, including past life regression: where it’s good, where it falls short and where (and how) such practices have other positive value beyond evidence for reincarnation.
PRE-REGISTER, PLEASE!
Thursday August 7th, 6:30-930 PM Cost: $50
Contact HCH either by phone: 925 283-3941, or email Paul at: Paul@HypnotherapyTraining.com.

GHOST STORIES NIGHT on June 12, 2014. 7-9 PM

PROFESSOR PARANORMAL’S TRUE TALES OF GHOSTS & HAUNTINGS
Loyd Auerbach, Director of The Office of Paranormal Investigations, has been investigating cases of apparitions, hauntings and poltergeists and other psychic phenomena for over 3 decades.
In this presentation, you’ll hear him tell the stories of some of his more exciting and perplexing ghost hunts, including some of his more unusual cases such as the case of the couple haunted by amorous spirits, the bartender ghost, the tale of the apparition of a living woman, the peeping tom ghost, and the amazing case that convinced him that ghosts really do exist. Naturally he’ll talk about his most extensive investigations dealing with the Moss Beach Distillery and the USS Hornet.
He’ll talk briefly about how the actual methods and tools of real investigators differ from what one sees on TV, how the phenomena connects to psychic experiences and abilities, bizarre – though normal – explanations that are not paranormal, what parapsychologists think these things really are, and why “fear of ghosts” is never on his mind.
Loyd Auerbach will leave you excited, mystified, entertained and perhaps … even a bit creeped out (though more likely laughing).
Appropriate for just about anyone, including teens and kids over 10 who “ain’t afraid o’ no ghost!”
When: Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 7 – 9 PM Pacific.
Cost: $30 (and you’ll receive an mp3 recording of the session with a few days via email at no additional charge). Attend by phone if you can’t come in person!
